I've just spent the last three days curled up on the couch with Peter Angelo and my mom, marathon-watching this series from the first season to the last. Its well-written, eccentric characters (including a former prescription drug addict and a cross-dressing dean) and sharp dialogue combined with the often outlandish situations make for the sort of humor that has me in stitches for 21 minutes.
The concept of the show is simple enough: it's about a group of very different students in a community college.
Except, well, it's really not as simple as it first appears.
In the pilot episode, I categorized the seven people in the study group—the Geezer, the Libertine, the Athlete, the Overachiever, the Christian, the Weirdo, and the Jackass—and didn't expect them to shed the labels. As the show progressed, however, I realized that my labels were becomingly increasingly off-base as the characters began showing more of their personalities, motives, virtues, and flaws.
Another thing I love about it is the continuity. A lot of the things that happen in the show has bearing on future episodes. The result is that when I watch, I have to think back on past episodes, keeping things fresh in my mind and helping me forge connections between past events and current ones.
It also doesn't hurt that it includes references to Pulp Fiction and The Breakfast Club, bringing out the geek in me. 8D
All in all, Community is a brilliant series. If you watch it once, you'll want to watch it over and over again.
